Building Emotional Intelligence

Building emotional intelligence takes some time and courage. The first step is to evaluate your own level of emotional intelligence.

A comprehensive assessment of emotional intelligence pinpoints your strengths and what competencies (e.g. leadership, self-control, self-confidence) of emotional intelligence that you need to strengthen and grow.

Many leaders have opted to include a 360-degree evaluation in their assessment of their emotional intelligence. With a 360, you ask eight to ten of your colleagues to evaluate your emotional intelligence. Your colleagues “collective” perception of your emotional intelligence is compared to your EI score.

It can be a bit daunting to ask your colleagues, suppliers, or big customers to evaluate your emotional intelligence. Getting their responses provides a valuable perspective of your skills in the market place.
