Monthly Suggestion
Observe Our Leaders: What and How they say it.
As you watch the television news, read the newspapers, and print journals,
observe and listen to what leaders say and do. If you are attuned, you can
learn from the successes and missteps of our leaders.
Do they keep their cool even when blind sided?
(Probably, losing control does not convey a competent or appealing leadership.
Are they
feigning cordiality? Maybe, that’s not too bad?)
If they lose their temper-does it quiet their critics?
(Maybe, if you’re the big boss, your outbursts may temporarily squash critics.
If you
get hooked into escalating, you may become a ready target again.)
Imagine yourself in that situation-what would you say?
(You may silently mutter some unpleasant comments about your attacker, but
that will not help much. You may quietly tell yourself to “stay calm” or
“keep cool.” Sidestep the attack for now and focus on the issue.)
Are you thinking sharper and quicker in the comfort of your own living room?
(We all are probably more brilliant when the pressure is off and we had
some time to relax. Prepare and visualize yourself sitting calmly responding
to your critics. This takes practice.)
